Queenie J Ladythug gives us a more indepth into what has been happening in the Gambian music scene in the last seven months. Her daparture to the US to further her career and develop herself is a great loss to the Gambian music scene especially when it comes to promotions of artists within the country. Her radio show was one of the hottest in town and everyone from teenagers to grannies were all tunning in to the show due to its consciousness. Star you will surely be missed.
MARCH

Ø SUCCESS EVO is the name of the mixtape supposedly releasedon may 5th by producer A9. It features artists like Smokey Killa, Makeda, Preacher, Jah Micheal, Benjamin, Heartbreaker and others.
APRIL
Ø On midnight April 2nd,B-master shot the video of his song GOD OF WAR. It was directed by Kenny and Efe. The video has the concept of darma~morning, day and night shots at the sea side with everyone dressed in red at the night shots. It was his first promo video to Nigeria, USA,UK, Ghana, SierraLeone and Canada. The videos can be found on youtube and itunes.
Ø You can now get B-master’s songs on itunes, amazone, napster, sony, e-junj and at his site B Master Online or Whale Sound Record by simply typing B MASTER.
Ø There was a press release from B-master’s record label in America concerning his album to famous newspapers and radi stations on the 6th of June.
Ø 10th-12th April, MLK went on a tour to Bansang and Basse.
Ø Sisasi opened a new studio at kololi called DANCER YARD, He was giving out free Hiphop,reggae and bashment beats to interested artists.
Ø 19th April- Prince Mackaye of ShyBoyEntertainment shot the video of his promo video for his album TAKING OVER. The song is called BUGGIE DANCE.
Ø Stalwart asks people to check his songs and videos out on his MySpace: Myspace.com/akamentalassasain.
Ø 25th April- The annual GAMSPIRIT AWARDS gala dinner organized by Lamin Cham of Champion Sounds goes down at the Kairaba Beach Hotel
Ø Dr.P of Unique Clan opened a new studio in Bakau called WANJ BI PRODUCTIONS.
Ø 25th April-MLK launched a free show called GAMBIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL at LK school hall. He plans to make it an annual event.
MAY
Ø 2ND MAY –Vex Gunjee had completed his video of song DRIVE BY CRUISING which was directed by Black Mahogany and edited by MoeBlack of Plasta Inc Productions.
Ø 4TH MAY-Marion left for England to study music sound engineering for two years and to upgrade her singing skills.
Ø 9TH MAY- Jaye Mbye had a show at Jokor Gardens for her fans.
Ø Mabthelast1 opened his own record label in Morrocco called HEARTCOLD RECORDS.
Ø 9TH MAY- The Front Yard Entertainment with Da Sexy Gurls organized a free rap show in Kerr Serign which featured artists like Trobul Smallz, Jah Warrior, Buggle, Tam 50, HeartBreaker, M-Nizzle,Tyrone, Big Amz, Njie B and many more…
Ø FiiLa! Gambia’s 1st ever hiphop tv show hosted by the BlackLynx debuted.
Ø ShyBoyEntertainment released a new riddim called THE FIRST LADY RIDDIM which was to help enhance women empowerment. They are ensuring that the music industry also contributes its quota to this noble cause.
Ø 23rd may- Pa Omar Jack a.k.a Mr.Fish n Chips had a show at Alliance Franco-Gambienne.
Ø 29th Jaliba Kuyateh launched double albums at the Paradise Suites.
JUNE
Ø 6th June- Barz song OhMyBarz!’s video is completed-produced and directed by Plasta Inc. Productions. You can watch the video on Myspace.com/rimezgalore and on youtube.
Ø 6th June- Essay’s Video for his single BANJUL is out- produced and directed by Plasta Inc. Productions.
Ø 7th June- Trobul Smallz commenced shooting on his God’s Will video directed by Pa Abdou Waggeh.
Ø 13th June- The first ever SeneGambian HipHop compilation, the BANJUL-DAKAR compilation comes out with 17tracks from more than 20 artists from Gambia and Senegal.
Ø 17th – 20th June- The annual festival held in Senegal called THE 72 HOURS OF RAP-DAKAR-KOLDA FESTIVAL which features artists from different countries and includes activities such as conferences and concerts was held and the SLAM-G-CLAN of Banjul were invited to represent Gambia.
Ø The Promise Land Riddim from Gander’s production is released.
JULY
Ø M-Nizzle signed a record deal with ShyBoyEntertainment.
Ø A compilation was released in Australia which is the 1st CULTURE-ROCK SOUND and includes songs from Gambian artists like Sisasi,Emperor, Dr.Chaka, Man Cure etc- The compilation is called CROSSING BORDERS. It can be accessed at Myspace.com/culturerockausra. It is for free download.
Ø 2nd July- Dr. Olugander, the reggae artist flew across the atlantic to Atlanta, Georgia (USA) to receive an honorary award at the July 4th Gambian Reunion Festival organized by AGERA(Atlanta Gambians Emergency Relief Association).
Ø Open Mic Number 26 happens on July 25th.
Ø 25th July- Junior Sam organized a live band show at Jokor Gardens.
Ø A new producer was initiated into the music scene from New Jeshwang. He is called P-Nile.
